Crowned Pearls of Wellington was born out of a passion held by a small group of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® women who wanted to help improve the lives of the underserved in our community. As volunteers, we were committed to bringing our time, talents, strengths, and educational and professional expertise to bear in support of causes that enhance the lives of the underserved.
In 2019, our volunteer group expanded, and we began formally collaborating with the Village of Wellington Community Services Department on Food Drives, Holiday Toy Drives, Cultural Events, School Supply Drives, and additional activities that benefited the community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, and while serving as a community partner, we were proud to have had the opportunity to participate in Feeding South Florida and to be a contributing partner in the establishment of a Grab-N-Go Pantry at our local hospital to support the healthcare workers serving on the Frontline. We also donated to the Palm Beach State College Food Pantry to help students experiencing food insecurity.
After witnessing our impact on the community, we formally pursued non-profit status. In 2020, our application was approved to operate under Crowned Pearls of Wellington, Incorporated, focusing on volunteer initiatives.
Beyond volunteering, we endeavored to have an even more significant impact. We recognized the need to be able to raise funds to support programs that would further expand our reach to those in greatest need. With this in mind, in 2021, we pursued a 501c3 non-profit status, applied, and received approval. We began to offer book scholarships, mentor and tutor high school students, enrich their experiences through cultural exposure, and help fund internship initiatives that advance the lives of young people in the communities we service in Palm Beach County. Crowned Pearls of Wellington, Inc. is committed to and works daily to improve lives.
